The language toki pona (toki-pona) lacks a lot of common mathematical definitions. Although this is on purpose, I do enjoy talking about mathematics. In a language where kindness and compassion is so prevalent I see no reason why to avoid talking about something I feel so passionate about. Then, here is my documentation for how to speak about common mathematical terms.

In toki-pona we have the general notion of numbers as defined in “nasin nanpa pona” (nasin nanpa pona). I will perhaps go through the core ideas of this number system later. For now, keep in mind that it is a very simple number system. In this document I attempt to talk about complex mathematical concepts in toki-pona. That means that in order to read this, you must be aware of how nasin nanpa pona works. Again, it is a very simple system and I highly encourage you to read up on it if you haven’t.

There is no need to reinvent the wheel, specially in mathematics. I will use the standard mathematical symbols to refer to the four basic operations:

The reason for this is that, personally, I consider mathematics to be its own language. Talking about Mathematics (the language) in toki-pona should be the same as talking about any other language in toki-pona. The language of Mathematics has its own culture and conventions and, depending on where on the planet you grew up in, your ideas about Mathematics can be different. Knowing this, I fully expect that different people will have different opinions on how Mathematics in toki-pona should be spoken.
